Auto Trans Removal
#1
I am in the process of pulling a DOHC/Auto from a 96 SL2. I can't figure out how to unfasten the shifter cable from the transmission (not the end where it bolts to the tranny, but about 6" back where the adjuster is). I can't find any release mechanism to pop it out.
Also, this car has anti lock brakes... any tricks to get the engine/transmission out around this unit?
THANK YOU!

it's a metal slide that you slide out and the whole assembly pops loose. difficult to explain, but you'll see if you get a flashlight close to it and really look. what happens is, during assembly, they push the cable in place and slide a "collar" down that holds it in place. all you do is slide it out and you can pull the cable right out.
good luck...

Thats for a manual, the person above is describing an automatic.
There are two small ears or retaining tabs that need to be pressed together to release the cable. Similar to how the throttle cable is held in place. Kinda a pain with out the right tool. Cable nose needle nose pliers works well. Like the ones at the bottom of the following picture:
