'01 SL1 ignition hard to turn from locked to off
hey, this is one of my first posts but im wondering if theres any way to help free up a worn ignition?
seems like it needs a good ****ing before she rolls over and runs away..... if you dont understand this i mean, when i put my key in and try to turn it i have to wiggle it a bit to get the stupid steering lock disengaged.....

Well, 1st point of interest, forcing it is a good way to break it. Having said that, mine has been like that for quite a while due to lack of use and age. To get things to work you had to wiggle the steering wheel a bit to get the whole mechanism to free up as you "Push In and turn" the ignition key. Now that I have it back on the road and driving it regularly it has freed up again quite a bit. I still have to remind myself to "push in" on the ignition key to get it to work easily. I don't remember if I always had to do it, but it is the only car I own that requres me to "push in" while turning.

Yes, start by getting a new key "cut" from the dealer. Do not get a new key ground using old key as guide at some store. You need a new key not a copy of your old worn key. Bring your VIN along with ID and registration to the dealer to get a key made.
