Default 1997 oil pump repair?

I have a 1997 SL2 with only 30k miles on it
It was my mother-in-law's car that she never drove and then she got Alzheimers and couldn't drive any more. I gained ownership of it about a year ago with only 9k miles on it. Anyway, for the past few months the oil pressure light has been coming on when I am driving at slow speeds. Once I am on the highway, it stops blinking. I have found the oil pressure repair kits at my local parts shop, but was wondering how hard it is to gain access and repair the oil pump. I'd really hate to pay the dealership to do this when I am capable.
Is this a particularly difficult job, or something I could do in an hour or two?

Change the sending unit first if your not getting engine noise. Other wise your looking at 5 hours if you know what your doing. Oh and buy a new pump from the dealer if your going to bother doing all the work.

Do an engine oil flush no matter what you do. Search yahoo on how to do that.

Sending unit? Is that the same as an oil pressure sensor?
