I just finished replacing the cylinder head on my SW2. I know where to
put everything back EXCEPT for one part-a small black bracket which I
found lying under the car after I had moved the power steering pump
aside. It's not the readily visible one that bolts to top of the intake
manifold, but looks very similar. There is an apparently unused bolt
hole just up from where the timing belt tensioner mounts. Does the
bracket mount to the back side of this, and where exactly does the
other end go? I've spent close to an hour under the car trying to
figure this out.

I meant to say SERPENTINE belt tensioner, not timing belt.

Send a picture it is worth a million words.there is a bracket under the intake and directly behind the alternator not easy to get to but a distinct possibility.the bracket is offset with tube center and flatened on both sides with a single hole on each end.No longer then 4or 5 inches
