Hi I am new here and I am looking for info on on Saturn I have at the shop...its a 1998 Sat. SL2, Auto 1.9L DOCH It needs a transmission replaced, and I found one for $450 and came across a TSB stating that the soon to be replacement transmission(the used unit) has to have the VIN# some how interchange with the the vehicle's VIN # or else it will not work. I already tried to call the Dealer here locally and they are nothing but kids who don't really know nothing. The service won't help unless I take it there and have them work on it, no suprise there. Does anyone or has anyone heard of this??

You need to find a 1995-2001 MP7 automatic transmission. Gear ratios and electronics of the valvebody changed throughout the years. Thats why they want to verify your VIN. $450 is a lot of money for a used transmission. What exactly is wrong with yours?

It won't shift out of 2nd gear and has set transmission codes for the check engine light. When the light is reset it works for about a few minutes then goes back to acting up again.

What codes are set sounds like you have a stuck/inop actuator in the valve body
