I just had 60,000 maintenance done my 2001 L200 and was told that I had a leak in my steering gear. The tech person was not very helpful at explaining what this is. I have not had any steering problems. I guess I was just wondering what a steering gear leak is and what it will affect? How long can I go without fixing this? Also I was wondering what causes this, it doesn''t seem like a problem I should have at 60,000. It has crossed my mind that they were just making the problem up, especially since they told me it would be $1150 to fix. PLEASE shed some light on this for me.

Are you seeing any indications of leaks when you park your car overnight (puddles on the garage floor) ??

There are no puddles or indications I have a leak yet. The tech told me that the steering gear was saturated and it would not be long before it is leaking on the ground.

So when it starts leaking on the ground or the rack fails, then you''ll believe there is a leak and a problem. Untill then you''ll just believe the the TECH person just made the whole thing up. It''s your car, believe what you want.
