I have a 96 sl1 1.9 that the only way it will start is to hold gas peddle to the floor and then rev it up to 3500 quick. Some times it will idle fine then, and other times it idles a little rough for awhile. It drives fine just won't start. Any ideas. My daughter turns 16 in a few days and wants to drive her car.

Hey Tracy,

try replacing the coolant temperature sensor.

I had a similar prob w my sc2, it would start but when I gave it gas it died, after a few minutes it seemed to be fine.

the senor was 20$

good luck

Thank you for the response.I had known that the temp gauge was not working and got the sensor the day before her birthday and put it in and found out that as you said a $20 part fixed my 2 week gray hair causing ordeal. I am glad to have it done. Glad to know this site works. Thanks again.
