Help! I am trying to fix my son's 1995 Saturn SL2 overheating problem and have changed out the thermostat and coolant sensor. It seemed to be doing OK so today I drained the radiator and engine so I could add a 50/50 anti freeze (had 100% water). Now I can't get the anti freeze mix to go back in! I am adding to the overflow and only could get about a gallon to go in but drained out about six gallons. I ran the car for quite a while but still the level in the overflow doesn't go down and there isn't anyplace else to add the fluid??? Really would appreciate any suggestions....Thanks!!

The only place to fill it is at the overflow bottle.

You drained out over 6 gallons? The system only holds 1.75 gallons (7 quarts).

Check the deairation line for kinks.

Thanks Mike, I meant 6 Quarts! I thougt I read that the system holds much more than that so this really helps. I 'm not sure where the deairation line is but will look for it.....

Its the small hose that comes off the top/side of the tank, runs along the top of the frame, around the strut tower and to the top/back of the intake manifold.

OK, Thanks - I think everything is fine. The basic problem was that I'm an
idiot and mixed up my units...e.g. quarts for gallons. The only thing I'm
worried about now is I haven't seen or heard the fan come on. I tried
turning on the air conditioner (which I doubt ever blows any cool air) to no
avail. We'll see how it does on the next hot day when my son gets stuck in
traffic. Thanks again for the help.....

As soon as you turn on the A/C wht fan should come on. If it doesnt, you have a bad relay or fan motor.

I did check the fan relay (under hood) while I was there - swapped it with another relay and nothing happened. If there is nothing wrong with the fan motor, will the fan function if the A/C system is not operable? (e.g. will the fan kick on when the temp rises towards overheating even if the fan doesn't come on when you turn on the A/C). Is it difficult to change out the fan motor? I looked up the part and they list some either with A/C or without A/C and others that don't make that distinction. I'm wondering because I will probably order the part and send it to my son to install if he determines the fan motor is bad (by jumping pins or wiring to battery).Edited by: Carrier999
