Default Broken rocker arms help?

I'm in the process of picking up a 1995 coupe with engine issues. It's a single oveer head cam motor. Problem is 2 intake rocker arm are broke? Not sure why. Is this an common issue with this motor? I went to the wrecking yard for parts and found other motor with the same broken arms. I think the previous driver ran with out oil? I put 2 good arms on and now it looks like the intake valves are open because there is to much lash. have not spun moror over yet thats tonight.

any help, insight, or suggestions are welcome.

No it's not a common problem with the 1.9L sohc or dohc. Get the book and find out how to install the rocker arms.

Yep, it sounds like the pistons have already punched the valves. Replacing head is in order.

for this to happen the timing would hqve to jump. The motor has a timing chain not belt. could the timing jump chain sprockets?

I was thinking the motor got hot and seized the valves in guides or the lifter need to pump up? I'm pulling at straws. compression test is next.

Yes if the chain is worn then the slack could be enough for it to jump just as it could in a bigblock prostreet 454. You put replacement rockers on and they are loose to the valves? Does that not sound like the valves are open? If they are open why? Valve springs broken? Valves bent? Pull the head and find out whats going on.

I have to wonder what happen when the rockers broke ..... I can see it as being a little invasive to other parts of the valvetrain.
