1997 Saturn Sl only runs on 2 cylinders. New spark plugs/ignition wires and cleaned the 4 mounting bolts that hold down the ignition coil pack. Only the left coil pack is sending out current so spark plugs 2&3 are not recieving any current. Cleaned the coil pack backing plate and switched coil packs and the same problem exists. Only the left coil pack sends out current and the right coil pack has no current coming out of the ignition wire contacts. So both coil packs are good since switching them made no difference in which coil pack sent out current. Car has been sitting for 3 months and this problem has happen before to me, even though I start the car and let it warm up periodically.Any suggestions?

Paulorlo,

I do not have a 97 any more but it sounds like your sender is not reaching one coil kind of like your left channel going to your spekers lost connection. If you have a meter ohm it out. Could be a broken terminal wire or similar.I will look at mine in the daylight an see whats up. My saturn sorry to say doesn`t rate staying in the garage.

Well I tested the control module and found that the resistance between the two sides was not the same. You were right because that was the reason for one coil pack working and the other coil pack not working. A new ignition coil packs with control module is $225 from Advanced Auto Parts and $265 from a Saturn dealer. So I took a chance now and in the future by going to the junk yard and buying a used unit for $40. Installed the unit and things are back to normal for now. Thanks for your help
