Default Cranks,won't start

One of our vehicles is a '97 SL2. Problem is,when you go to start the car, the engine just cranks. It sounds like it wants to start, but nothing. We replaced the plugs and wires.Still nothing. Please help.

Is this an "all of a sudden" thing, or has the car been getting progressively harder to start over the last few months? Also, what part of the country do you live ??

My wife tells me it has been getting worse lately. I wonder,do u think it has to do with the fuel filter??..I know she has had the car for over a year and we never have replaced it. It needs to be done either way.

Dtown --

Its getting that time of year, the heat should be tapering off. Might make it for several months more.

Now, as to your car -- If you have access to an ohmmeter, unhook the electrical connector going to the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECTS), and measure the resistance on the sensor (across the contacts). It is located on the driver's side of the engine, just below where the hose to the radiator is located. If the reading is above 1,500 ohms, or below 200 ohms, the sensor has gone bad, and should be replaced. Buy the new sensor from a local GM dealership, not Ralph's Ragu Roundup and Horse Barn.
