Engine replacement 98 DOHC
#1
What are the steps to replace my 98 SC2 DOHC engine with a 5-speed transmission? One repair book said to pull the engine and transmission out together. If that is true, do you need to remove the front wheels and pull the driveshafts or can you just disconnect at the transmission? Which year engines would be a direct drop in?

you dont need to pull them out together.remove wires and hoses three bolts holding the right axle carrier to the block. stuff on front of motor ie p/s pump water pump generator(altenator)a/c compressor idler pulley, exhaust manifold, its a pain in the *** squeezing it in and out but can be done

You dont absolutely have to pull the engine and tranny out together. But its faster and easier to leave them together and seperate them outside the engine compartment.
1993-1999.5 engines will be a direct replacement.
In my driveway I have engine/tranny removals down to a little over an hour. 15 to 20 minutes at the junkyard.
