My mother is having a problem with her 1995 Saturn. She claims that after going down a steep hill (no throttle, just braking) then almost immediately attempting to climb a hill, the car will hesitate once (to as many as three times) before getting on with forward motion. She says the problem seems to be related to turning right while trying to accelerate up the hill. I'm not able to look at the car or test drive the car because she lives far from me. I don't know the last time the car was tuned up but suspect it been a number of years (but not too many miles).

Is it a hesitation that starts when she steps back on the gas? And is the car a manual? If so, it almost sounds like a clutch problem. The clutch wouldn't be grabbing right away causing a "hopping" sensation in the car. You can create the same problem when taking your foot off the gas at anytime and stepping back on the gas somewhat rapidly.

If the car is an automatic, I can't tell ya... Typical haven't ever worked with autos.

Keep us updated and if you solve the problem.

The car is an automatic. Based on feedback so far I'm going to recomend a general tune up (including new spark plug wires) and a fuel filter change. Thanks to everyone who supplied constructive feedback!

Anyone know a reputable auto repair shop in Penn Hills (east of Pittsburgh), PA?
