Saturn-Towing "Four Down"
Can anyone help answer the following questions: 1. will a manual transmission Saturn serve well as a towed vehicle behind a motorhome, 2. is there a particular make or model that is better for towing than another, 3. for parts, should I look for a newer model or are parts available for older units (please, specify); 4. can anyone recommend one base plate, brand specific, over another and is one Saturn model easier to set up for towing than another?

I don't know for a fact, but I've had several people tell me that you can actually tow a Saturn automatic with four down. They're one of the few cars around that towing won't screw up the transmission. The 03 LW200 I have now was a tow vehicle. It has over 150,000 miles on it, but the way it drives and handles and runs, I'm pretty sure most of that mileage is from being towed and not driven. Heck, it's still got the tow hooks connected to the front. I'm not going to remove them simply because I'm too lazy and don't care how they look.

Sorry, Casey. I just sold mine two weeks ago to a local dude. The base plate have to be specific for your car anyway. No way the L series I had would work on your Ion. Check hitchsource.com or etrailer.com for a couple of sources. Good luck with it.
