Default 1998 Saturn SL is the reason I joined

Hey All,

I have just inherited a 1998 SL that is in great condition and I wanted to jump on a forum and learn everything I can about Saturns. All tips and tricks are welcome.

Thanks

One thing I do remember from owning a 1998 Saturn SL myself is that they have a plastic valve cover. That will warp if you tend to drive the vehicle extremely fast or let it get hot apparently the thing warps and will cause your gasket to fail and have leaks around the valve cover . if I remember correctly back in the early 2000s they still wanted like 400 bucks for a replacement valve cover

Now if the valve cover warps and it is not too bad it can sometimes be fixed by putting in a new gasket and using some high temp gasket sealer. Don't know how it will last. Something like that is a roll of the dice. Could last 6 months or a year might last a few years if it was a good solid repair and not warped too bad. That was how mine was repaired and I know it lasted at least close to year until I no longer own the vehicle. So the repair was still holding.

We generally try not to respond to posts that are 10 years old. But you are new . No harm no foul
