I found that the motor is a X20XEV. I also found there is a C20LET..which is a 2.0 turbo. Hmm that would be fun!!

Your Saturn is an Opel Astra H clone for the most part.

Saturn Astra 1.8L is a Cast Iron block with aluminum head ECOtec engine.

Family 1 ECOtec
DCVCP / Z18XER

A variant of 1.8L Family 1 engine featuring Euro IV compliancy, DCVCP (Double Continuous Variable Cam Phasing technology, a variant of VVT) and integrated catalytic converter, entered production in Spring 2005. It was based on the lighter cast-iron block, although there's no TwinPort in this version. An updated 1.6 L TwinPort engine was introduced in 2006.
1.8 L (1796 cc): DCVCP, 80.5 mm (3.17 in) bore, 88.2 mm (3.47 in) stroke, 10.5:1 compression, 140 hp (103 kW) and 129 ft·lbf (175 Nm) of torque, combined fuel economy 7.0 L/100 km (40 mpg-imp; 34 mpg-US)

These engines are manufactured at Szentgotthárd, Hungary.

Ecotec DCVCP engines are used in:
2005 Opel Zafira
Opel Astra
Opel Insignia
Saab 9-5 (2010–present)
Saturn Astra (1.8L)
Chevrolet Cruze (1.8L)

I think the North American designation for the ASTRA engine is LUW ....

I love mine. I think its a great looking car. I had never heard or seen one till I got mine. As soon as I saw it, I had to have it!

I always liked the ASTRA. Any of the short comings can be easily overcome except the lack of engine options. The fuel mileage of the 1.8L was no better then the ION was with more HP and Torque. Yet the ASTRA is better looking and handles a "bit" better. Making the ION handle as good or better then the ASTRA is cheap and easy. So we have trade off's. I kept my 2.4L 175hp ION sedan. Mine is lowered, does have a front strutbar and aftermarket rear swaybar so the car handles outstaning for what it is. Not to mention it has the power to run away from the ASTRA. GM just didn't do ASTRA right in North America.
