Toyota To Pay
It appears that Toyota has admitted wrong doing with misleading information surrounding "sudden unintended acceleration" problems associated with electronic throttles, commonly known as fly by wire/drive by wire systems. Incorrect dealer supplied floor mats and sticking gas pedals appear to be the main issues and not the electronics that were rumored to be at fault. The NHTSA also corroborated tests done independently on dbw systems - followed closely by every vehicle manufacturer around the world, either bolstering the reliability of dbw or lay bare any faults that were overlooked in design. No failure of Toyota's dbw system were found. This should allay any doubts/fears of unintended runaway engines from faulty electronics. All Saturn Auras, Ions, Outlooks, Vues and L300s use dbw systems. To date, no member in these forums has ever reported a life threatening runaway engine caused by failure of electronics.
