I heard a rumor tonight that Firebird Raceway was closing. How soon, don't know. The story is the land is leased from the local Indian Tribe and the lease is up and they will not renew it.
On one hand lots of reasons now anyway why it is understandable, on the other hand a few reasons as to why it might be a pressure play but if true major national functions are scheduled there along with a number of minor things like driver training programs.
No one seems to know the real story nor the fall out from it. And if it does happen what the impact might be to Speedworld, the other Drag strip and off road car and motor cycle race track along with Radio Control Air Plane facilities in the local area.
By the by the leasing of Tribal land for business purposes is and has been quite a business in this area anyway. The entire side East of Phoenix is Tribal property and the building booms created a number of deep pocket business complexes that are new, empty and have been since the economy crashed.

 

Heard talk of that also.

 

Yep could shut down at the end of 2013..........In fact I think it will shut down, and rebuild down the road apiece.
