Thursday I needed to run around Scottsdale
to make some deliveries. I normally would take my Town an Country but the load was small and the Saturn had not been driven in awhile. So I took it. I put about 150 miles on it, a bit of freeway on cruise control a bunch of surface streets squirting in and out of traffic.
I've owned the car now for going on 14 years, bought it used in 1996, 2 years old.
I enjoyed it then and it is a car that as years have passed, continues to be enjoyed. It still drives out well, it is quick with the perf option setting for the automatic transmission. It goes where it is pointed when driven hard and comfortable to spend time in.
It's getting a bit long in tooth now, some of the plastic bits and pieces are begining to crack and fall apart, despite a selling point for anti-rust when new, 14 years in the heat of Arizona and parked outside most of it have not done it any good. The sun roof still works, I still enjoy it even if it has been a high cost maintainence item. I like my Satelight Radio in my new Chrysler, so I miss that in the Saturn but it still gets good Country Western on the FM.
I also observed my 3 year old repaint with the Blingy Black Gold version of the Factory Black gold, the clear coat on the roof is beginnng to deteriorate, I guess I can re-clear it when I get a chance.
It's getting time to change the oil, hasn't used any since the last oil change so can't complain.
It's been a nice car, woulda bought another one when it came time to buy a new van
if GM had not decided to build a badge engineered car instead of something designed and built as a Saturn.
Oh Well
I think if I ever wear this one out to the point where it is no fun putting it back together I'll miss it.
I usually drive something for quite awhile because I liked it when I bought it. The only car I own that I have had longer than this is my 1970 Javelyn that I obtained in 1979.
