Auamarine 1993 SL2 for sale.

One owner, <120,000 miles, but a lot of problems

• None of the following work:
  • spedometer
  • odometer
  • trip odometer
  • fuel gauge
• Significant blemishes/damaged on both the interior and exterior
• Sounds bad. We haven't investigated why. Car runs, but is loud.

I think this is the paint job peeling off, but I'm not sure.

There's a lot of dirt here that could be washed away, but there is also permanent wear in variousplaces. The doors do still have a good seal, though.

Unfortunately, these blemishes aren't just dirt. Not sure what it is. Some sort of bubbling. Of the paint, I presume.

Notice the trunk is slightly askew. Trunk closes and is dry, though you have to be forceful to close it. That was the result of a rear end collision in the late 1990s. There is also a crack in the rear bumper from that collision.




Note the gash in the upholstery.


The back seat was rarely used front passenger seat were rarely used.


The roof fabric was fixed at one point, but you can see it's starting to come down in some places and severly worn in others.

 

I forgot to add that the car had hail damage in 2006. All of those dings are still there, mostly on the roof, as the plastic panels withstood the impacts better.

 

That's the clear coat disintegrating. Once that's gone, then it is the paint. Hood, roof, trunk lid are metal and the paint and clear coat adhere differently and can rust and blemish. There is no way that trunk can be sealed unless it is also pushed off to the right. The frame probably got tweaked just enough to misalign.

Did anyone tie in the knife fight by the front driver door?. How does one gash the seat in that spot? And how does anyone wear the headliner?

How much oil does it burn per 3000 mi?

If you donate to an automobile program at a local vo-Tech, the problem will be trying to find replacement parts. I'm going to guess your automatic seat belts do not work anymore and that at one time you spilled soda in the center console. The control chip for the seat belts has the speedometer and odometer signal feeding it and if the chip gets wrecked, I don't believe the signal gets through to the dash. Fuel gauge probably an issue with the sender in the tank. Downpipe or flex pipe probably has a hole in it in the exhaust.

I guess the kids could learn how to paint a car. Most of the other things can't necessarily be fixed because there are no spare parts for a lot of them. If the engine itself has problems, it can be rebuilt so I guess the best option is to donate it specifically to a votech or high school automotive program

It's been raining all day and I just checked the trunk and it's completely dry.

I have no idea how the cut in the front seat happened!

I wish I had a good answer to the amount of oil burned per 3000 miles. I'm not quite sure how often my wife has had the car serviced. It's probably more often than every 3000 miles
because of how infrequently she drives it, and regardless we haven't been the ones changing the oil and haven't kept any sort of records about how much oil was used.

The charity we're looking at, if they don't find a direct use, would likely auction the car off. We've considered donating to the motor sports program at IUPUI, where we both work, but haven't contacted them yet to find out if they have any interest. The automatic seat belts do actually work!

 

You could probably get a decent chunk of change just for those motors and tracks though I'm not sure if the tracks come out. They have to.

Do one thing more for the Saturn community and go to SaturnFans.com | The Saturn Authority for Saturn Enthusiasts.. . anyone looking for a 93 SC2 is looking for parts. Many parts fit 93 to 2002, but there were three body styles and interiors so not all fit everything.

Would be a nice donor car for someone trying to put a 93 or '94 sedan back together. Saturn's that old are almost impossible to find in junk yards anymore, so you would be doing somebody a favor. Since it runs I would ask probably 600, take 500 like you offered. Quite a few first generation parts you simply cannot get anymore unless somebody with a vehicle like you put it out there.

No buyers there or here yet! We'll probably donate this in the next week or two if there are no other options, as spouse wants to use the plates on her next car.

I'd bite if it wasn't so far away. My grand caravan could use a break. A plane ticket would cost me more to fly there and get it then I'd spend on the car itself.
What a shame. I was born in 93. This car would be an awesome daily

 

It's killing me how little interest is left in putting any of these back together. No, it's not a collector's car, but there are a few freaks like dropdead and myself that will put money into rejuvenating these tired examples of what could have been. GM accidentally designed a decent mass produced vehicle that people wanted more than the ones they had in production already. People were buying lower cost Saturns instead of more expensive Chevys so they were losing income on every Saturn sale in their minds.

Thank you for taking the time to try to do the right thing by the Saturn community. Or what's left of it anyway.

Whenever I take my 95 SC2 through a drive-thru, I ask the kid handing me my food If they know what kind of car it is. Probably 2 correct out of 400. I asked where they think it's made after they get it wrong. France is a popular guess. Go figure

 

Check with your local high schools and see if they have an automotive program. They might like to have it for young, prospective mechanics to learn the basics on.
