Default 1997 SC2 - P0507 High Idle

** I posted this over in the welcome section first. sorry!

Hello everyone! Just registered on the site after finding a link through google. I have found myself in the unique position of helping my Daughter's boyfriend work through several issues with his 1997 SC2 that he purchased a few months ago.

I'm hoping someone can help guide me in the right direction, and perhaps suggest where I should be posting (which subforum?).

The current issue is that yesterday while driving to his Friend's house the car suddenly started running very badly. He brought it over, and after looking at it we found that one of the coils went. We just got back from the u-pull-it and put the replacement coils in. THe car now starts up right away and runs nice and smoothly, but its throwing a p0507 code and obviously idling high. I have verified all vacuum houses are connected. I think next I'll spray something like wd-40 around the vacuum connections and the intake manifold to see if I get a change in idle. Any thing in particular I should look for?

Interestly, the coils that we took off were clearly from a different vehicle. I believe that the top end of the motor had some work done on it about 20K miles ago, but I can't be sure.

Thanks!
Doug

Well, since the error code (P0507) is the one for a high idle, and you just had to change one of the coil packs, possibly the Engine Control Module may need to "relearn" what setting the throttle needs to maintain proper idle speed. If you find any vacuum leaks, you obviously need to fix them, otherwise, I'd just go through a couple of days of 'normal' driving, and see if the system resets itself

Sure enough, the idle has returned to normal. Thanks!
