I have a 1997 SC2 and i has been giving me trouble going into first gear and sometimes second and seems to be only getting worse. First thing that comes to mind is pressure plate worn. Does anyone know of a forum with instructions on how to remove and replace the clutch assy? I was told there is just enough room to wiggle it into the wheel well, saving me dropping the sub-frame so its looking like a weekend job. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

i am having the same problems with my car. the symptoms of a pressure plate might be a clutch pedal the is real stiff and hard to push down. a bad clutch would be once u put it in gear your engine just revs up and your car doesn''t move. your problem i think is in the transmission with the top and bottom syncros on the shortest shift fork or the gears might be getting stripped but that''s just my guess. you may be able to fix it by taking your transmission apart and replacing the two syncros or the gear or you could just by a new transmission.

The clutch you just need to remove the transmission from the engine unbolt your pressure plate from the flywheel (the clutch should just fall out). When you go to replace them with new parts just need to get the alinment tool (comes with clutch kit) put it threw the splines in the clutch into the imput shaft on the engine. Then you line the pressure plate up on
the flywheel then bolt it on.Bolt back on your transmission but back on your CVs to your steering knuckles and you should be done.

I have replaced a clutch before but u can also seek further advise if you dont like mine hope this helps

Thanks debo, i have thought about syncros and gears, but then if the syncros where going the gear wouldnt be stubborn it would just grind, being that it cant syncronize. Also if the engine revs but the car doesnt move it would mean bad friction plate, hydraulics or separated shifter bushings. A worn pressure plate would cause the transmission to not disengahge completely.I am still undecided as to what the problem is, it is intermittent, sometimes it goes into gear no problem. I thank you for your help.
