Could I blow it up......
This is kind of a redundent question, but I must ask and would appriciate any help. In my 2000 SC2 when you hit the 6500 rev line the gas would cut off immediatly and you would have to shift the car. Taday I noticed that my 2001 will spin up 6800 rpm with no cut off at all. I think it would go even farther. I dont want to blow the motor, but wonder why the difference in just 1 year and should I never go above redline or did they tweak the motor so you can. Any help would be appriciated..

To my knowledge the rev limiter is the same at 6500; I would suspect your tach cal is off before suspecting they changed the rev limiter rpm.
The redline is a redline for a reason -- you increase the chances for engine damage at and above the redline. If it was ok to exceed that rpm, the redline would be at a higher rpm.

I absolutely agree. Thanks for the advice and I was assuming the tach might be off, but when it let me hit 6800 rpm I did not dare explore how off it might be. If it means anything my shift light still comes on right at redline, but with no cutoff. Is there a way to calibrate the tach or should I just go new?

Personally I don't see the need to cal or replace it.....all you really use it for is a guide, no?....you're not racing the car (presumably)....
Can it be cal'd? probably....don't know the details.....

I dont race it on a daily basis, but I do love to give civics and eclipses a run when they get cocky. So I will just stay safe and when the shift light comes on to follow it. Thanks again for the info......
