Default Ignition Problem (Or Something)

First of all: Hello everyone. I am new to the forums and am a proud Saturn Driver like you all. I am glad to be part of this community.

I post here at this time asking for assistance on an ignition problem. It is a 1997 Saturn SC2, I just bought a battery last month, and it is a manual. I had ran the car an estimated 3-4 hours prior and it was running fine but as I turned it to ignition, power to the whole car died instantly. Stereo, lighting, you name it. All died. I checked the terminals and ground, and they were fine. The power came back on a few minutes later. I tried again but it happened once more.

It finally started up after a couple more tries and so far it's started up every time. Could this be just from the specific climate? I live in Utah so things have been pretty chilly lately. I would greatly appreciate feedback as soon as possible. Thank you.

Large positive cable from the battery has probably failed internally. Acid gets under the covering on the wire, and eats the wire up. (cable will feel brittle and "crunch" if you try to bend it)
