Is my MAP sensor bad???
#1
Ok, so I have a 96 sc2 and I just bought it about 3 weeks ago, the OBD port doesn't work and I haven't messed around to find the broken wires yet but it idles pretty rough...like it's missing. I saw there was a bit of oil in cyl 3 when I replaced the plugs but i unplugged the MAP sensor and the car ran the same...does that tell me that it's bad??? Any helps appreciated.
Thanks,
Cody

First why the hell did you unplug the maps in the first place??? It does not mean that it is bad, don't go unpluging things if you dont know anything about it....The oil seems to be a commen problem with saturns...

I just changed out my MAP last night in my 97 SC2... Every now and then, my idle rpmwould go toabout 2000 and my check engine would trun on after a few times of the rpm going up. My buddy has an OBDII tester and it told me that the MAP was bad. But mine wasn't missing so I don't know if your problem would be fixed or not with a MAP replacement. Couldn't hurt to go to Pick-A-Part and grab a few (GM Part # 466). They're dirt cheap and most GM's will have the same one if you can't find a Saturn on the lot.

Mileage? SES light on? Fix the ODBII port and your chances improve greatly. No power to it or does the scanner say it can't establish communications with the PCM?
Refrain from random part swapping.....a slippery pointless slope.....

I'm starting to think that the MAP sensors go bad on a regular basis... Either that or my car is just screwed in general... I picked up three from Pick-A-Part and now I've cycled through all of them with the problem coming back after a couple hours...
