I hope you of you Saturn Guro''''s can help with this, I have a 2001 SC1 with 114,000 miles on it, it runs great but the fuel pump relay burned up on it and melted the relay panel, I replaced the panel and fuel pump with OEM goodies, The relay keeps heating up so I can''''t drive it longer than 15 minutes. The pin # is 87 the black (Ground)?. It runs great and the car is un-modified. If you have a direction to go please let me know. Thanks soo much in advance. Edited by: vince1966

What size fuse do you have in the fuel pump circuit?

Find someone with an ammeter, and check for the actual current draw on that circuit. Obviously, something is drawing too much power if you are burning up relays ...

OceanArcher Thanks for you post, I have a 10 amp in place but the draw or short is in the power ground out to the fuel pump, there is no fuse for that spot, The fuse is not blowing, I am trying to figure out how to check it with the ammeter, Do you know if this is a 12 volt line to the pump or is it stepped down? Thanks again</span>

Vince ...

It is a 10 amp circuit all the way. Power for the fuel pump comes through the FPUMP fuse, the to the open contact on the fuel pump relay. When the relay energizes, the contact closes, andsends +12v out all the way to the fuel pump. No step down in voltage. The relay is designed to handle normal current draw, so I am puzzled as to why things are burning up.

Need to get a current load reading on the circuit ...

Is it possible That there is a weak ground? The pin that melted out of the fuse/relay panel was black, the schematic shows it''s ground point is the LH front shock tower. I need to get a battery for my multi meter and check continuity on the ground. Thanks for helping me on this.
