SC2 Overheating at Triffic Lights
#1
I am having an issue that the car is overheating while sitting at the Traffic Light. It is fine going down the road, but if stopped it does overheats. I don't think the radiator fan is comming on also. However the inside temp gauge does show the car is overheating. If it is most likley a sensor of some kind please explain where these sensors are, I think I can find it if I have an idea where they are. Newby here Edited by: sw2cam

There wont be any codes if the SES light isnt on.
First thing I would do is turn on the A/C and see if the fan comes on. If it does, then you know the fan is working.
Does the car actually overheat, or do you think it is by whats displayed on the gauge?
Also what year is the car?

The SES light is not on. I turned on the A/C and the fan does definatley come on. The temp gauge indicates it is getting hot and I can also smell that it getting hot (like hot water smell).
It is actually a 1997 SC2 (I think I was accidentally in the wrong forum earlier(SL2))

Defintely sounds like a thermostat which is an easy fix .. if it was your water pump the symptoms would be different in a worse way. My audi just had that same problem, all it was, was the thermostat. Have a mechanic / inclined friend do it if you can't. Don't go to the dealership for something like that.Edited by: sw2cam

I really dont think its the thermostat. If that were the case, it would over heat in traffic and while the car is driving. Coolant is flowing through the system and being cooled by the current of air passing through the radiator. If the thermostat was stuck closed, coolant wouldnt be flowing through the system.
I'd change the sensor first since its the cheapest thing to do and see what happens from there.
