Default second gear is popping out

i got a 2000 saturn sc2. it has a manual transmission and recently it wont stay in second gear. right before it happen i did grind it... im not an amateur but it happens once in a while. and ever since then as soon as i let go of the clutch it pops out of second gear (if the rpms are above 3k). i talked to sum people and they said that my synchronizer was shot. is this the case? if so how do i fix it and how much will it run me? $$$

".... my synchronizer is shot......"

Read --> transmission removal, rebuild, reinstall. Costs ? Depends on how much of the previous you can do yourself.

okay new problem... what does anyone know about a "shift cable" for my saturn? when i was driving it popped out of fourth and now it seems that my car is stuck in third gear and is jammed so it wont let me switch to another gear.

pull the center console.

Shift cable loop end may have broken off one of the two shift cables

pulled it out and everything looked fine... but then looked under the car and followed the cable and the wires are all frayed and disconnected from what i assume they should be in.

time for a new shift cable assembly --- get the Saturn replacement, not aftermarket-the aftermarket are known to suck.

Also -- your synchros may not be shot after all

at least the center console is already off.....

thursday morning driving to work ( a saturn sc1 1999 5 speed) I was behind from an eighteen wheeler, we were speeding around 60 mph, suddenly a trash can came below the truck and I run over the trash can and it got stock below the car

I pull over, pull the trash can out and start driving again, as soon I hit second gear it pop out.... so I just move to 3rd gear and continue driving.. I thought no big deal

once I got at work and start driving a slow speed in the parking lot... the 2nd gear pop out again and again and again.... go back to 1st gear and park the car

so I went back home.... yesterday I crawl under the car, I do not see damage at all.... the only thing I saw on one of those linkage cable is that the sleeve is not all the way to the nut ( I hop make sense )

Your shifter cables are on their last legs. You can buy them aftermarket and replace them over and over again, or you can buy them from a GM (chevy) dealer that services Saturn's.
You can also buy them from
