water in oil
i have an 02, sc2 and there appears to be minimal water in oil. About 3 oil changes ago i put a new oil cap cause the old one was broken. I can pop cap off and see the tan colored there and on the dip stick occasionally so pulls have some and some pulls are clean. My check coolant light recentaly came on also and i filled it up and it hasnt re appeared yet. I talked to a mech. about it and he said with the high milage (170,000) its just sweating and not to worry about it? whats your opinion on it?

Sweating? I'm sorry, but that description only applies to me, when I'm working on a car outside my garage during the summer. I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and the humidity gets really high here at various times of the year, but I've never had an engine "sweat".
True, a broken oil cap could have allowed some moisture in if you drove through a puddle deep enough to splash water up there, but I'd be leaning more towards a pinhole leak in the head gasket. I'd keep a wary eye on the condition, for right now.
Some might suggest some type of "stop-leak" treatment, in an effort to stop the coolant from getting into the oil, but I personally don't like those items and won't use them in my cars ....

strangely enough my sis has an old volvo and they are known to collect some moisture in the oil if not regularly driven for decent periods on the highway.....seems weird to me but....
As for your situation -- I'm with QA -- lean towards head gasket issue if getting coolant in oil and losing coolant to the point you have to refill
