Idle at 1900
#1
Hello, my name is Shane and I have a 2006 Saturn Ion with the 2.4 litre engine,
I recently bought a Weapon-R secret weaponshort Ram intake, I installed it everything was installed correctly(I believe) the intake had a slot for the MAF sensor, and that canonly be installed one way, so it cant be in there wrong.
i got in the car test drove it everything ran perfect, got a real gain in high RPM power, a noticable differnence. Then the next day my check engine light when off, I figured it was beuase of that an wasent really worried, then on my way home from work, I noticed that when I come to a stop or press my clutch inand the car is idleing, the RPMs dont drop to a normal 700-900 RPM ran, they drop to abought `1800-2000 RPMS and thats were it stays, now when I got stuck in traffic, I would slow down and let off the clutch real late like at 1000 RPMS and it would go back up too, the 1800-2000 range, and I know its not the gauge beucase I can relate the RPMS to the speed and to what gear Im in and the redline cut off is the same and you can hear that it should not be idleing this high so I know it is not the gauge, and when I turn the car off, then turn it back on it will idle at a normal 700-900, but as soon as the engine gets any kind of rev it goes up to 1800-2000.
I check the throttle body for any obstructions or stickyness and it looks fine, and I think the throttle body, is not opened by a cable, but by a signal sent from the ECU, so Im all messed up. lol
The car runs great except for the high idle.
Can anyone help at all, please any advise, Thank you

Also, this morning when my car was cold, the idle would drop to about 1800 RPMs, stay there for a couple of seconds then drop down to the regular idle at like 800 RPM, but after the car had heated up it stayed at 1800.
Please, any advise, I was thiking the throttle body or my ECU, but Im not sure, help please

i would start by putting the stock intake back on just to see if the idling problem stops. if it does than its something improperly installed on the intake system. if it doesn't it could be a variety of sensors. i had the same problem on my old car, but i haven't had time or money to toy around with this car yet but very soon hopefully

i have a weapons r/s secret ram air intake. i had the same problem. the guy who manufactured this intake forgot about the other vacuum line. there should be the small line then on your stock you should have had another vacuum line about 1.5 inches thick. i can not be exactly positive because i have a 2.2L but i ended up having to drill a whole in the metal to place the hose so it has a vacuum seal on the line. also my car is an automatic and was shifting very hard as in 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third it was doing a short burnout. ended up connecting the line and still have the power but its a smooth jerk.

the car is idling so high because intakes are made to suck in more air into the motor. so the more air entering through the intake the higher the car is going to idle. if you put the stock intake back on you will notice that the car will idle lower and that is because it isnt pulling in as much air into the motor.

not true the car will no idle higher if anything it should idle lower. car runs better with more airflow. a lot of cars usually get barely enough air flow through a stock intake. i have a cold/ram intake from weapons r/s the idle is around 750 for my car.
