Exclamation ION Key Stuck

You should be able to get it out by removing the trap door and pushing till you feel the release move at your finger tip.

I think 2005-2007 had the trapdoor. 2003-2004 had a pinhole to do the same thing .... use a pin or paperclip.

If your key sticks the first thing to do is get a new ket cut at the dealer using your VIN. Do not have a key ground to match your already worn out key.
If the lock cly is worn you may find you need to replace that after you get new keys cut.

Three reasons key does not work properly

1-You need a new key cut via vin if the key is hard to turn
2-Lock and tumbler is bad if the key is hard to turn and or if lock light is lit on dash
3-Shift or Park lock solenoid is bad if the key moves freely but will not turn all the way and come out

Default Maybe this issue

My 2005 is having ignition key issues, when I go to remove the key it will often not come out, when I turn the key off if I stop at the catch right before off and wait for a little while I can here a click and then I can turn it off and get the key out. I am guessing that sounds as if the solenoid is bad. Where is this solenoid located and is it an easy swap out? Thanks

Under the console...next to the shifter...buy replacment from dealer before you start then you'll know what your looking for.

PS: While at the dealer have a new key "cut". Don't have a key ground to match your worn out key. Price should be in the $10.00 area so check around. Also tell the dealer you want your key code for your records and then keep it in your records.

Buy check around I mean you can call more than one GM (Chevy) dealer. Your key does not have a chip in it, you can remind them of that.

Not sure if this is the right area for this or not. Still new. I have an 03 Saturn Ion. The key was stuck but is no longer stuck thanks to the pin trick. However now the ingnition lock cylinder is stuck in the off position. How do I get the cylinder out? I know that if it wasn't stuck you would put in in run and push the holes on top in the right sequence. Since that isn't an option how do I get that and the ignition control switch on the end off?

Check out a guy named richpin on youtube. He's got tons of how to videos and I'd bet he has one for that too.

That happened to me many years ago. The following day the key turned over and it worked. I guess now with the GM ignition re-call this shouldn't happen anymore.

No it shouldn't. People will be killed by some other flaw GMs been unwilling to acknowledge for the last ten years. Then again, new GM isnt liable for old GMs f ups and liabilities. They immorally squirmed out from under that anvil during the bankruptcy.

Want my business? Stand by your product. And everything that happens that is out of the norm.
GE does on my refrigerator, preemptively replacing for free a part they now know has a near 100% failure rate that stops the unit from cooling while in the middle of a service call for something else.
