2000 3.0 crank position sensor

I have a 2000 L-series 3.0. It will crank but will not start. I think it is the crank position sensor, but I cannot locate it . I know it is supposed to be above the starter, but I can't find the starter either. Anybody replaced this themselves? Thanks for your input.

next to the oil filter about the 5 oclock position on filter

on the very front, underneath of the motor. One wire, one bolt.
