Last week my Service Engine Soon light came on in my 2001 L200 Sedan. The light is steady so it has something to do with the emissions system. Using a code reader, we got error code P1441, which is translated to "Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Flow During Non-Purge<span name="Kona">." A different source words it as "Evaporative Emission Control System Continuous Open Purge Flow."Problem is, I know next to nothing about car repairs and I can't even find a simple answer online about what is going on with my car. So, why exactly is the problem? Is this a serious problem? My wife is planning a trip to Chicago (a three hour drive) this weekend, would it be safe for her to drive with until we can repair it later? Is this something I can repair at home with someone more knowledgeable or do I need to take it in to a garage? If so, is this the sort of thing any garage could handle?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A guy at Autozone says the problem is somewhere in the purge canister (or coal canister) and that the repairs are easy as long as you can find the canister. So, does anyone know where the purge canister would be on a 2001 L200?

Flow during non purge is usually the purge solenoid. Really shouldn't be a problem for the trip.Get'er replaced when you can though.

FYI, The EVAP Purge Solenoid is located near the air box.
