Well, if you drive the car, the odometer mileage will increase (just the nature of the beast). All this extra light flashing, gauges bouncing, etc., when does this occur, stopped at the light, normal driving, while parked, entering or leaving the car ???

Snap thought is that you have a bad electrical cable somewhere ...

it all occurs when i am driving. and the added miles is adding miles when the security light flashes, not when i go amile, it will added like 5 miles for every one i drive. my car don''t do it everytime i drive it though.

WOW ... that IS a different complaint. Adding mileage at 5 times actual. You need to swing by a dealership and get this problem documented, because it bears directly on your warranty (if there is any left) for the vehicle. You might even get them to extend the warranty based on a faulty mileage indication.

If you do, please post back here what they find, but I am still suspecting a defective cable connection. Have you tried to read any stored computer codes??

i haven''t tried computer codes lately, but i have never had any codes except for when my check engine light is on. i have no warranty left, but i guess i will have to take it in and have it looked at. do you really think that they would extend the warranty?

The car is a 2002 they will not extend the warranty. Sounds like a BCM problem.

(sigh) ... sw2cam is right, over 5 years and you have to cope with it as best you can. The Body Control Module appears to be the culprit, just as he says. I misread your initial posting - thought you had a 2004, not a 2002. Sorry ...

My 2002 L200 is also having issues talked about here. Going to check for loose ground cables as well. Would like to know if any one narrowed down exactly what the fault was and what one of the BCM ( body control module ) costs.
