My saturn after 74,158 miles just started clicking today and the check engine light has come on several times in the past two years but we have had it checked and have been told by the pros that the CO2 sensor is bad but in our state we don't need emissions done so no need for it to be changed(so we were told). But this clicking is really bugging me. I heard this same clicking in my 99 dodge grand caravan 85,000 miles and a week later the engine cracked. I have not changed the plugs or wires on it since I bought it in 2002 and it has been a while since I have changed the belt and air filter. The car also started doing a bit of a shudder when she starts at first I thought it was the timing belt is that posible and is it easy to fix or expensive?

it is an SL 4 door "sport" it does burn oil but it is fine it is due for an oil change now but the clicking has stopped today but I can tell it is running rich today and I have noticed that the gas mileage is not as good as it was a 6 months ago.

 

Do your oil change service. Dirty oil (past its change date) can start to sludge up, and gum up the works - leading to oil starvation and 'clicking'. Run a tankful through, then check your mileage again ....
