Default The "1" and "2" designations?

I'm curious...what did Saturn use those numbers for? Recently somebody brought up the fact that it meant number of cams, and I always assumed it was the options package that it signified...anybody know?
Thanks,
Tim

It designates the type of engine. You can get a SL1 loaded with options, but it will still be an SL1(sohc).

"That" is known as an EPIPHANY a mark of intellegence, and if you say it with a straight face you might get away with it.
I do!
