Default 1999 engine swap

I have a 1999 SL2 with a blown engine (DOHC). I have been doing some research and saw that, along with being able to use a 99 engine, I can use a 00-02 engine with minor modifications. First off I was wondering what i would have to change on a 00-02 engine to be able to use it. Secondly would it be easier to remove the transmission with the engine? And finally I know it will be a tough job, but would it take a long time for two guys with decent knowledge of the car to swap the engine? Thanks for your help!

seems to be a comprehensive list of interchange information related to your question. Other than that I can not answer your question. I really hate doing major work on a front wheel drive car and have avoided it like the plague. Something of this nature I have a tendancy to be **** about and clean, restore and repaint so when it is done it looks factory fresh which takes forever.

My best guess at this point, is take your best estimate that you and your buddy have come up with, double it and it still will probably be to short of a time.

pulling the tranny is highly suggested because if you dont it will take a lot of manuvering when you go to put in the new motor, for some reason its always easier comin out then it is goin in. second im not 100% sure buti believe the wiring harness and ecu are the main things that'll need to be change if your goin up a couple years other than that motor mounts may need to be adjusted to fit and hold the motor but that is just about it i believe in order to swap if youre sticking with the same type engine.
