I Just bought a 2002 SL1 auto. It was running fine, but now under a load it "slams" into gear. Also when I shift from Park to reverse it "clunks". It just started this today and gave no forewarning. The fluid looks to be full. What could it be and what should I do? I just bought it and I hope I don't have to spend a ton of money to fix it.

Thanks, Mike

Classic symptoms of a Saturn auto transmission that was improperly maintained. Usually requires a transmission valvebody replacement. You can pickup a rebuilt valvebody on eBay and do it yourself for a couple hundered dollars or take it to the dealer. In that case, parts plus labor, you're looking at a close to $1000 repair.
