96 SL2 Tranny Question
#1
Hello, I have a 96 SL2 with an automatic tranny that seems to shift different than i am use to. It seems to slide into 2nd and 3rd gear. There is no slipping going on, it just seems like the change from gear to gear is very slight like you can barely tell its doing it, or its doing it rather quickly like the rpms don''t come up enough before it shifts. When it gets to 4th gear you can feel that like it should. Also if i am going in reverse and while moving backward shift to neutral it seems really loud almost like the drive wheels skid. If i stop completely and then shift it is fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am planning on changing the oil and filter this weekend and will install a cooler as well.

maybe your just not used to a tranny shifting smooth then, haha.
IDK, i mean nothing really sounds out of the ordinary there. When you are going from reverse to drive you are supposed to come to a stop first.
At what rpm''s is it shifting into the next gear at?

Thanks for the reply. Here is how the car shifts, and the one thing i don''t understand is that it actually shifts 4 times? First it shifts at 2500 rpm at 15 mph, then 2200 rpm at 21 mph which is the one that seems like it is very slight, then it shifts again at 2700 rpm at 28 mph, and again at 2500 rpm at 41 mph. Now this is accelerating at a slow pace. I am not giving it alot of gas when it does this. If the car is a 4 speed why does it shift 4 times. If you start in 1st gear it should shift 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd, 3rd-4th. With it shifting at the 2200 rpm at 21mph it then drops to about 1900 rpm then goes up to the 2700 rpm. Maybe i am making something out of nothing, but i see people with tranny issues that wait to long and i don''t want to be one of them. Thanks again for any incite!
