Need some help - a/c out on my wife's car and she get's hot and crabby fast. Engine fan comes on when the engine temp goes to 1/2+ but fairly new rad so ok. Changed the pressure switch jumped the connector everything fires up like normal, but no cold air - topped off freon as I had let some out thinking it ay be over full. Now it's up at apx 35 and brought it up slowly - still no cold. no wierd noises etc. of the compressor. clutch works like a champ. When I take out the jumper everything goes silent again. I'm stifled and concerned that if it's something simple and I miss it, taking it in for a diag and fix might be more exppensive than it should be. Help anyone?

sw2cam- The thing that I'm not understanding is that if the compressor was still low on Freon at 35 psi it seems to me it would just cycle on and off vs. not starting w/o jumping the pressure switch? I've played with low a/c systems before and that was the typical behavior.
Is what it is doing because it's only at 35psi?

What is the difference between the Suction and Discharge readings on the gauge set?
Here are my ideas; compressor not pumping, non condensible material in the AC system.
I suggest you evacuate the system with a vacuum pump and see if the system holds a vacuum for at least 30 minutes after</span> it reached 10~20 inches of vacuum, close the gauges and shut off the vacuum pump.
If it does not hold a vacuum you have a leak.
Find the leak, I found it easy to put in UV leak check and charge the system, repair the leak.
If no leaks are indicated I thinking the compressor is not pumping.
You will have to evacuate the system if you change the compressor and recharge with new refrigerant.
