'99 SW2 pulling a light trailer?
I've noticed trailer hitches you can buy and install from Ebay, and they have a couple that are specific to my '99 SW2....I have a need to pull a lightweight (1200 lb. total, with bikes) motorcycle trailer with 2 dirt bikes aboard for about 70 miles round trip on any given weekend day...only one vehicle in our family with a hitch, and if wifey is using it on that any given weekend day then Grandson and I are outta luck....I'm wondering if any of the guys on the forum that have been dealing with Saturns for years and years have any opinions on why or why not this would work ok? The weight factor is not huge, might even be lighter than 1200 lbs, that's just my guesstimate...
Thanks a mil,
Tim

I've personally used my '93 SW2 to pull a trailer with about 1800 (est) worth of paving bricks a distance of 30 miles (mostly flatland and freeway). I don't do it everyday, but the trailer was well-behaved, and no objectionable "tail-waggle" when rolling. Bissest pisser I had was converting the three-light system on the wagon to a two light system for the trailer -- hadda get an adapter box and wire it in ....

Glad to hear it's been done before...having a 5-speed is a good thing in this case, wouldn't want to risk burning out a torque converter on an automatic that wasn't built for it...I think I'm going to go ahead with the project...thanks for the response, OA...

Yeah -- actually, there's 5 points of connection, two on each long bar (hooks to the sub-frame), and a fifth just below the hatch latch from the bottom. Won't impact the latch operation. Make sure the bolts and nuts are "pinned", so they won't rattle loose. Actually, my sw2 is an automatic -- no problems, and I'm into the 165,000 range
