Alternator cover? woes need help
Let me begin with noting that my husband is NOT a mechanic. That said, our son (who thinks he's a mechanic), replaced the alternator in our 1993 Saturn SL. Apparently there is some type of a plastic cover that got knocked of during the repair procedure. This cover goes over a condenser I believe. Well, our son told us he replaced this cover, but this weekend it was discovered to be not attached to the vehicle. My husband needs to know how it goes back on. We understand the part is very fragile and if not in place oil can get on the top of the alternator and the possibility of a fire would exist. The best I can describe the part, its a half-moon,L-ish shaped piece of plastic with two plastic prongs. My husband doesn't know where to attach the prongs. Any help would be so appreciated. He is so frustrated. Thanks in advance for the help.

sounds like you are describing a piece of the plastic in or near the wheel well...these pieces interlock with tabs.... would suggest looking at the other front wheel -- I don't think there is a "cover" for the alternator -- certainly not for the top...possibly a guard for the bottom......

I would assume the splash shield either left or right one that covers the belt and pulleys on the passenger side of the car in the fender well behind the tire my 96 has two pieces that yes interlock with tabs sounds the same look behind that tire and if you can see the pulleys and belt thats your piece.
