Default Brakes on a budget

Well, my rotors are currently shot, and my pads arent all that great. So, I want some really good brakes on a budget. And I think Ive found the solution, Everything for $100.

What I got:
Black Zinc finished slotted rotors - $70 for the pair
http://www.ebay.com/itm/150865575769...84.m1439.l2649

Powerstop Evolution Z-16 Ceramic brake pads - $30 shipped from rock auto (part number 16507)
Ive been reading up on these pads and see good things about them.

I havent put the brakes on yet, the noreaster is coming through and theres alot of rain and wind - so I plan on putting them in tomorrow inbetween classes, nomatter of weather unless its really bad. Ill let everyone know how much better they work than stocks

Will the slots eat the pads away early or you think shoddy rotor quality?

I really dont care all too much, since ill (plan to) have another vehicle before that time comes around and then this will just become a mess about car

I don't see any reason that he'll be going back to stock that soon unless he's just hard on brakes. I've know folks that run the ceramics and slotted discs for 50,000 miles or more. BUT, I do live in a rural area without much stop and go traffic. Maybe that's got something to do with it.

I too live in a rural area and got 140k out of the original brakes. Then I put on slotted rotors and some street/performance pads. They were extremely difficult to modulate and even with quality tires, Bridgestone Turanza LS-T (the last good Turanza's), they were hard to keep from locking up in the rain, just to grabby. And at 35k miles of the same kind of driving that I did on the factory brakes, they were down to metal on metal.

I switched to Wagner rotors which I have had very good luck with on several other vehicles but tried the Duralast ceramic pads. They were much easier to modulate, very much like the factory brakes but wore out in 75k miles and took the rotors with them, something that ceramic rotors aren't supposed to do. The only reason that I replaced them with another set of Duralast Ceramic pads is because AutoZone pays for them from now on. BTW, I have had good luck with the regular Duralast pads, but for Ceramic, from now on it will be Wagner Thermoquiet Ceramic OEM.

Thanks for the tip, Ive had them on since saturday now and they are pretty good. They are fairly easy to modulate, but I can lock them up now in the dry if I want to (couldnt do that on the old ones, essencially smoke screened my friend when a car cut me off)

However, they have been good to me in the rain. I did all my breaking in in the rain and was hitting the brakes much harder than I normally do to try and replicate the issue you had. I did lock them up once, but they are fairly easy to control (but i havent really hopped on the highway with them yet - I normally get upto 60 ish mph going around where i live though)
I will be keeping an eye on them for excessive wear thanks to your heads up though
Maybe the pad formulation makes the difference? I have General Altimax HPs on my car

Check them at 25 to 30,000 miles and let us know how they look man. I don't think you'll be needing to replace them yet at that mileage, but I don't know your driving habits or circumstances.

most of the people around here dont deserve their licenses, so ill definitely be on them, Especially with the summer coming and living 6 miles from the beach, we get all the idiots passing through my town.

Other than that, I do tend to drive.... aggressively hahaha. But I plan on replacing the tires soon so that will be a good time to check them
