CARB Legal Cat?
Where can i find a California CARB legal cat? I have a loud rattle coming from my exhaust. I layed under the car and shook my exhaust and I am pritty sure its coming from my cat. So I need to find a new one or a used one in good shape. Does anybody know where i can find a new or used one for a good price? I searched the internet and found a few new ones but they are pritty pricy. Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks

Year/model/mileage?
prob just the extra heat shield on top betw cat and heat shield attached to car.
Can be removed (at your own risk)
If car is ODBII (96 and newer) and is not coding a P0420 cat code, your cat is likely ok

The car is a 94 Saturn SL2. Its not the heat shield i checked all that. Its when i phisically go under the car and shake the cat itself or when i drive i hear it. Its very loud sounds like a there is rocks inside it.

Been there done that, the cat probably rattles when the car is started although it may quiet down on a run. There is a possibilty the pushed hard the engine is going to run hot.
You will not find a used catalytic converter unless you are lucky. I think there is a law against selling one and the average junkyard will not push that button and there is a large aftermarket salvage business for the rare earth parts in dead cats so junk yards will sell to Cat vendors who sell them for value. I have one from an Oldsmobile in my parts bin if I need it for anything anyway.
Install a generic high flow catalytic converter. Pretty much available from any muffler shop. Lots of them in California where they bend pipes rather than install pre-bent systems.
Should be in the vicinity of $150.00 or so installed. If you can not afford that you are on your own. have not had to install a cat that often, have had no problems passing smog with them.
The, must have OEM sales pitch is usually some one trying to stiff you for premium prices and then installing 3rd party stuff anyway.
The one that is on my Saturn is the same one installed on my 1980 AMC AMX. Generic and smog legal.

I've run across a couple of cars that had the CAT removed "for testing purposes" ... a new generic unit will properly fill the bill.
UnclJohn is good on the pricing, although it may run a tad higher in areas that have a high COL (cost of living)
