Default Cold air intake for my 96

I have a 96 saturn that I bought about a month ago and it has 211,500 also just recently I installed a short air ram intake. Just to see if I can get some extra gas mileage even though I get around 32 already. The only thing I do not understand is that the universal long tube air intake kits that can be bought at Autozone, Advance or any major parts store ... does not fit right.... so I had to mod mine into a short air intake which I just took off the old filter box and that was it... now it is saying that I need to service my engine soon is it from where there was a sensor on the air box? or what could it be?

Please post ODBII codes (Pxxx)

If you removed the airbox, you would have had to remove the intake air temp (IAT) sensor mounted in the bottom. If you didn't reconnect it, you'll get a SES light as a result. If there is no port in your new intake for the IAT sensor -- make one.

universal fit items and saturns tend not to work out......

actually you'll likely not notice the difference with the intake you put in --- you may wish to consider putting the stock air box back in.

Gotta agree with DERF on this one. The intakes on the Saturn arent as affective because they suck so much heat coming off the radiator. The true cold air intake have to installed do by the wheel liner. A real bitch to install, but the only problem is if that intake sucks up water your motor is done because there is no bypass valve available for those intakes! So your best bet is to put a K&N air filter in & be done. The intakes for the Saturn SL's are nothing but a waste of time & $.
