Hi Everyone, First day on a new message board!

I am trying to get my daughters 2001 DOHC 1.9 running. I think it''s bad...

It started with declining performance, a light knocking, then she said it progressed to overheating then stopped running.

I pulled the new plus I just installed last month and they are soaked... lots of fuel. I rolled the engine over on the started and you can see the gas puff out the plug holes.

I compression tested the engine:

Starting from Passanger side to driver and got the following, 90,80,60,30.... Seems like the reduction from one side to the other is a good indication of a blown head gasket.

Any other thoughts?

With the previous knocking, overheating then those compression numbers, I''d say its time to replace that engine.

Compression should be at 185-220 depending on wear.

As I figured.... The car is solid, looks pretty new, but the engine is another $1200.00

I can install it myself, I found one with a 90day warranty. I guess in the end it is far less hassle than repairing this one.

Thanks

Man I wish it was $120.00

The Cheapest I have found for a 2001 VIN 7 DOHC engine is $950.00 plus $225 shipping. I checked a couple local yards and they told me $1200-$1400.

If you have a better line on something i am your friend for life!

The local pick-n-pulls here have them for $129.99. $64.99 on half priced weekend. I think this weekend is one of those weekends.

A couple years ago I bought a complete 2001 DOHC engine still in the crate for $800.

For a Pick-n-Pull, that is one clean-looking engine. I personally do not need one right now, but how much for the kitty hiding behind the crate ???

Actually the crate motor was bought from a GM parts warehouse. They wanted to get rid of it, so they put it on craigslist for $800.
