This has something to do with the transmissions. Can it be fixed easily?
When I got this code my 1996 SL1 started running bad. Is there a connection.

Well my booklists the following:

P0711 ...Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Error

Sounds to me like you have a temperature sensor that has gone bad, or that the wiring for it is defective.

This sensor feeds directly to the section of thePowertrain Control Module (PCM)controlling shifting mode and performance, so it is quite likely that the two issues are related.
