Default flashing lights

Hello, recently I had my starter go out. To get the car back to my house i tapped the starter and the car started up (Saturn SL1 2000 4d). I drove it back home and the whole way the front blinkers, the rear blinkers, the radio lights, and dashboard lights were all flashing. They would flash for about 10 seconds and then stop for about 30 seconds. I turned the car off when I got home and the lights continued doing the same thing. I just replaced the started so the car now starts up fine. But the same lights are all blinking still regardless of whether the car is on or off. Any help would be great , Zach

At the moment I do not have a good answer for you as dash board and radio lights blinking do not make any sense BUT it sounds like something has gone ballistic with the HAZARD light controls so that is the first place I would try to confirm things are o.k, such as has the switch been turned on and not turned off?

Do you have the passkey security option in this Saturn? Is the security light also flashing in sync with the turn signals and the radio and instrument panel lights?

If the answer is yes, when you tapped the starter, you inadvertently tripped the security system into thinking that the ignition key was being by passed. When you tapped the starter, did the engine start and then stall about 4 seconds later, but started OK after that?

If all the above are yes, then you are going to have to go to a GM dealer and get the passkey reset. That is about a half hour procedure. Along with the handling and paperwork, that will be about an hour labor plus shop fees so you may end up spending a little more that $100 for the reset. Maybe more if the long procedure is needed, thats 2 hours.

yes to the first two questions. I have a security system and the lights blinking more than usual. when i tapped it it started right up though.

I pushed the door pin that recognizes when the door is opened and closed in, and now it no long blinks when the car is off. another symptom of the blinking lights is a clicking that sounds like a turn signal click.

I tried driving he car yesterday and once I accelerated to 25 mph, the car wouldn't go any faster. It continued revving as if it was in neutral. It was fine under 25 mph though. When I got out of the car I smelled a burning smell like oil possibly. This problem may be connected or seperate

Sounds like a security deal, reset the passkey as previously stated.

Default Lots of problems.

So a few weeks ago i posted about how my lights where all blinking after I replaced the starter. I found out that it was the alarm and Have finally been able to disable to alarm after it the ignition kill switch had shut it off. Now I can Get the car started (Only with a jumpstart). While in park I have pressed on the gas and the car doesn't accelerate at all. and as soon as I press the brake the car shuts off again.

Not sure what you did here but the security system is b programmed into the body control module (BCM). You don't just disable it. You are going to have to take it to a GM dealer to get it reprogrammed and anything you do to try to get around this is only going to cost you more money.
