Forget the SL2 engine for a moment

......and tell me what is available in regards to performance parts and equipment for an SL1 engine. My son is just itching to swap his sohc engine for a dohc engine just to get the extra 24 HP the dohc has over his 98 SL1. I think he''s nuts because his SL1 runs just fine and gets 38 mpg to boot and I see no reason why the SL1 engine can''t be modified to get that 24 HP and even more and also do it cheaper than doing a full engine swap.
I agree more HP could be gotten from a similarly modified dohc engine but this isn''t about being the fastest Saturn in town, it''s simply about making the most out of what we already have and I think the sohc engine has a lot of potential if parts are chosen correctly.

Its not worth trying to modify the SOHC engine. You would have to spend thousands of dollars to try to get the 24 more HP out of it and you still wouldnt. Or you could spend a few hundered and do a DOHC swap.

well first the dohc has more than 24 horses over the sohc, plus the
redline is higher. As well as noone fools with the sohc and since they
don''t there are no performance parts. You need to let him. And plus the
horsepower gain is significant in the grand scheme of things. But if you
are successful in modifying the single let me know im interested.
