I can't remember what the kilo/mile conversion is, but my '99 SW2 has 162,000 miles on it and is still running pretty well....I think I'm supposed to be starting to look for a timing chain replacement right about now, according to a few of the folks I've been reading here on the forum...wonder what the going rate is for that?

timing chains should last the life of your engine why do you suspect it

Timing chain is the life of your engine .... if you still have a strong engine why wouldn't you replace the chain at 100K or so? We put 470k on a 1993 SW2 the chain was replaced just over 100k and again at about 200 and 300K. Engine gave up the ghost when the chain let go at 470 ....

I'm having a decent enough time with my SW2 as a 100+ mile a day commuter; the gas mileage is good, it's a 5-spd dohc with rack and pinion steering, so that automatically chimes the "fun-to-drive" bell, and it's got good, useable interior space. The only caveat I am suffering from (but trying not to complain too much about) is that I am a BIG dude...a touch over 6 ft. tall and the first digit in my weight reading is a 3....I have yet to find any comfortable method whatsoever in getting in or out of this vehicle...tears me up, each and every time I have to embark or disembark...

Mones only got about 100,000 miles or a bit more, the odometer quit and I have driven it a couple of years that way. I have not beat it to death, but
a while ago a friend of mine owned a wrecking yard and would rebuild Saturns to re-sell on a rent to own basis. Why Saturns if asked?
Answer: I love Saturns, easy to repair and run 400,000 miles on neglect.
I never found reason to disbelieve him.
He owned the junk yard for 6 years, bought it seconds away from bankruptcy and sold it clearing over a million.
Far as iam concerned, mine runs like new 16 years old with a bit over 100k on the clock (in miles)
